Stardust is coming!

This Year's Stardust Costume Ball is Saturday, October 26th featuring Seattle dance band Smoking Bill. Tickets are $35 and go on sale for "mug level" members of Raven Radio at 9am on Thursday, October 10th at Raven Radio. All remaining tickets will go on sale at 10am on Friday, October 11th at Old Harbor Books.

Last two cruise ships cancel Sitka visits

The last two cruise ships of the season have cancelled their port calls in Sitka. The Holland America ships Westerdam and Oosterdam will bypass Sitka on Wednesday and Thursday September 25 & 26. Fred Reeder, port director for the Cruise Line Agencies of Alaska, says continued inclement weather off the coast forced the ships to cancel.

19th Running of the Boots set for Saturday

Kerry MacLane is organizing the 19th Annual Running of the Boots, 10AM Saturday, September 28. The event will start from a tent at St. Peter's-by-the-Sea. Lunch will be provided at noon.

Health Fair to kick off ‘Health Summit Week’

Ellen Daly and Penny Lehmann outline the schedule for Health Summit Week. A Health Fair will kick off the week this Saturday morning (8:30-12:30 Sat Sep 21). Anyone interested in a full blood test should fast 10-12 hours prior to attending the fair. Breakfast will be available afterwards. Courtright wants a teacher’s voice on school board

A teacher at Mt. Edgecumbe High School is competing for a seat on Sitka’s school board. Stephen Courtright teaches music at the state-run boarding school. He says helping make policy for local schools is a way to contribute to the community, and bring in a teacher’s perspective.
