A local legislative race in Alaska has caught the attention of national media, and is being held up as model for political change elsewhere in the country. Softball takes over Moller for weekend series

Softball players will have their turn on the new synthetic turf this weekend. The three-days of play open Thursday evening with the Sitka Lady Wolves taking on Kodiak at 5 PM. There will be a JV game after at 6:45 PM. The softball action this weekend on Sitka’s new $2.6-million dollar facility came after a long winter of some at-times acrimonious wrangling over how team practice times would be allocated at Moller Park.

State of the City: ‘Better than many’

The state of the city is not too bad, according to Sitka Mayor Mim McConnell. McConnell reported on the economic and social health of the community to the Sitka Chamber of Commerce on Wednesday. The mayor drew extensively for her presentation from a budget cover letter drafted by former city administrator Jim Dinley shortly before his resignation. But Mayor McConnell also offered some of her own analysis.
