Fine Arts Camp welcomes(!) adult session

After three decades, the Sitka Fine Arts Camp is striking out in a new direction. Since 1973 the camp has taught thousands of kids music, dance, theater, and art. This summer, for the first time, they’ll offer a camp for adults.

Transformation grants target policy over programs

Last year, the Southeast Alaska Regional Health Consortium received a half-million dollars in Affordable Care Act funding to bring about policy changes in organizations – changes that could have a permanent impact on health. SEARHC plans to distribute a half-million dollars in Affordable Care Act funding over the next five years in a series of much smaller “Community Transformation Grants.”

Sitka Fine Arts Camp director Roger Schmidt discusses plans for the first-ever Adult Camp, June 11-15, on the Sheldon Jackson Campus. African Drumming, Trapeze and Acrobatics, Ceramics, and Acting are among the classes offered.

The Daily Sitka Sentinel reported on Thursday (5-17-12) that Sitka graduating senior Mik Potrzuski has received a basketball scholarship at Central Methodist University in Missouri. This video, shot by the television class at Petersburg High School in January, shows why. While his mid-court shot at the buzzer (:17) looks effortless, his next bucket (:38) is... Mikmazing!

TAB foreclosure sale rescinded, bound for court

The foreclosure sale of the True Alaska Bottling plant in Sitka is off -- and now Silver Bay Seafoods appears likely to sue. Until the dust settles, one of Sitka’s most valuable industrial properties could remain in legal limbo.
