Holst last worked as superintendent for the district 19 years ago -- but he’s been an active educational consultant since then, including work over the last five years mentoring new superintendents in Alaska.

People waiting to hear the name of the next superintendent of the Sitka School District will have to wait a little longer. After meeting in special session for almost four hours Monday night (3-30-20), the Sitka School Board again postponed the decision about who will serve as interim superintendent following Mary Wegner’s departure at the end of June.

Three crew members are safe, after their fishing vessel nearly foundered offshore of Sitka on Saturday (3-28-30). The Coast Guard received a mayday call from the fishing vessel Tamarack at 6 P.M. on Friday evening, that the boat was taking on water 35-miles west of Sitka.

The Sitka School Board has postponed its selection of an interim superintendent until Monday evening, March 30. The board met in special session on Wednesday, March 26, but couldn’t arrive at a decision on who will take over for Superintendent Mary Wegner after June 30 -- and serve for up to a year until a permanent replacement is found.

The Sitka School District is serving up breakfast and lunch seven days a week beginning on Friday (3-27-20) -- but the pickup of those meals will be on just two days each week. District co-assistant superintendent Phil Burdick says pickup will remain 8:30 A.M. to 12 P.M. at Sitka High School, but on Friday students will be handed four days’ worth of meals.
