Post-surge, Sitka assists electric customers with insurance claims

At least 50 homes are known to have experienced appliance failures -- mostly in heat pumps -- after a utility contractor snapped a guy wire, creating a short between the city’s high voltage transmission lines and lower-voltage distribution lines. Sitka is directing customers to the contractor's insurance company.

City of Sitka denies allegations in police whistleblower suit

The City of Sitka is denying all allegations in a whistleblower lawsuit filed against the police department last month. Former Sitka police detective Ryan Silva claims he was harassed and demoted for calling out the department’s inappropriate purchase of automatic weapons, among other charges.

One down at Chamber, school board candidates meet next on air Thursday

One-term school board incumbent Eric Van Cise and challenger Amy Morrison answered questions on district finances, policy, and how best to prepare Sitka’s students to enter the workforce, during a Chamber of Commerce forum this week (9-12-18). The pair will be joined by the third candidate, 18-year incumbent Cass Pook, 6:30 - 8 p.m. Thursday, September 13 on Raven Radio in a live listener call-in.
