Assembly member Thor Christianson files for reelection

Two more Sitkans filed to run for seats on the assembly on Monday (8-2-22). Former mayor and assembly member Valorie Nelson was the third to file for the mayor’s chair. Incumbent Thor Christianson was the first to file for one of two open assembly seats.

Voters could weigh in on haulout ballot prop this fall

The future of the marine services industry in Sitka could be decided by voters this fall. The Sitka Assembly Tuesday night (7-12-22) approved on first reading a ballot question asking residents to spend the proceeds from the recent sale of the community hospital to build a new marine haulout at the city’s industrial park.
