Second person tests positive for COVID-19 in Sitka

According to press releases from SEARHC and the city’s Unified Command Center on Monday (5/25/20), the patient was tested for the coronavirus as a part of the routine admitting procedure at Mt. Edgecumbe Medical Center. The patient was  immediately isolated and is now quarantining at home.

Pacific High graduates mark milestone in virtual ceremony

Students at Pacific High School graduated in a virtual ceremony with friends, loved ones and faculty on Saturday. It was the school’s first “Zoom” graduation but staff brought a personal touch to the platform, maintaining the closeness of Sitka’s most intimate graduation ceremony.

72 Sitka High School seniors graduated in the school's first ever drive-thru ceremony on Monday (5-18-20). Students parked their cars in the Sitka High School parking lot, heard speeches from fellow graduates and honored faculty, and circled to the front of the building in their cars, one-by-one, to pick up their diplomas.

And when the Sitka Assembly meets tonight, it will consider rescinding an ordinance that requires everyone traveling to Sitka to quarantine for 14 days and requires businesses bringing workers into Sitka to provide plans to the city.

Sitka’s 14-day travel quarantine to remain in effect, for now

The Sitka Assembly is holding the line on its 14-day quarantine policy for all people arriving in the community, for now. During an emergency session held Tuesday (5-5-20) the assembly debated allowing a small subset of essential workers to go straight to work, without quarantining.  Instead, members held off on the partial roll-back, and will consider downgrading the full quarantine at their next regular meeting.
