City homes in on water treatment plant location

July 23, 2019: What’s happening at tonight’s assembly meeting?

The Sitka Assembly will consider setting aside a portion of the Gary Paxton Industrial Park as a space for a secondary filtration plant, when it meets in regular session tonight (7-23-19). Plans to build the plant have been in the works since last year, after it looked like the city risked losing its federal permit to pump unfiltered drinking water directly from Blue Lake.

CorvidEYE: New road ‘groundbreaking’ for Sitka

Political leaders and local organizations broke ground on the Katlian Bay Road project Tuesday afternoon. Sitka Senator Bert Stedman championed the plan to extend Halibut Point Road, which has been in the works for years. Voters approved the project in a 2012 bond package. But construction finally began earlier this summer.

Assembly approves hospital budget, takes action with local brewery

Although the Sitka Assembly passed the final city budget only two weeks ago, that didn’t stop it from making a few changes during its regular meeting Tuesday evening (6-25-19). The assembly extended the Sitka Community Hospital budget for the month of July, and approved additional money for consultants who aided the city in the hospital’s sale to SEARHC.

Miller tapped for interim administrator role

At its regular meeting Tuesday, the Sitka Assembly finalized a decision to fire city administrator Keith Brady and appointed an interim administrator- Fire Chief Dave Miller will take on the responsibility, though how long Miller could serve in the role hasn’t been determined.
