Lawmakers press superintendent, education commissioner over conditions at Mt. Edgecumbe High School

State lawmakers questioned Mt. Edgecumbe High School leadership about conditions at the Sitka school this week. So far, a quarter of the students have dropped out or changed schools this school year. The hearings follow months of concern about student welfare at the state-run boarding school that serves primarily Alaska Native students from rural communities around the state. Read More

Kreiss-Tomkins: Legislator-in-motion

In 2013, Jonathan Kreiss-Tomkins went to Juneau as a 23-year-old novice lawmaker. He returned last week, at the end of his freshman term, as the sponsor of a successful Native languages bill that got national attention. Kreiss-Tomkins is up for reelection in November.
