Alaska’s most fearsome terrestrial invasive is the lovely, unstoppable Japanese knotweed

No one knows how knotweed came to Alaska -- possibly as beautiful ornamental in someone's garden -- but now there's an all-out effort to stop it before it chokes out native salmonberry and blueberry bushes along Southeast's roadways. The Alaska Invasive Species Partnership heard presentations on both the chemical control of knotweed, and "biocontrol," during its November meeting in Sitka. Read More
