Sitka’s Search and Rescue team rescued an injured hiker on Thursday evening. The hiker was walking across the first bridge on the Indian River Trail when the handrail gave way, and he fell, injuring his ankle.
A measure to prohibit All-Terrain-Vehicle rentals in Sitka failed at the assembly table on Tuesday (4-12-22). As KCAW’s Katherine Rose reports, the rental ban couldn’t gain assembly’s full support because several members wanted the law to distinguish between smaller four-wheelers, and larger utility task vehicles.
A new law allowing All-Terrain-Vehicle use on Sitka’s streets, is already getting its first tune-up.
ATVs have been street legal in Sitka just since late February. But some assembly members were concerned that the new law left a loophole for a business to rent ATVs to tourists. So when the assembly met on Tuesday (3-22-22) it approved an amendment that would prohibit leasing or renting “all-purpose vehicles” for driving or tours.
