Coast Guard Air Station Sitka rescued two hikers this weekend. The first, who was traveling with his wife, fell approximately 150 feet on Mt. Bassie on Friday (8-2-19). An Air Station Sitka helicopter aircrew rescued him on the Baranof Cross Island route.
A pair of Sitka adventurers has just wrapped up a six-year odyssey in their own backyard. Eric Speck and Dan Evans are likely the first people to walk the length of Baranof Island, north-to-south, in a total of 32 days.
