Kevin Meyer, the Republican candidate for Lieutenant Governor, visited Sitka on Thursday to commemorate Alaska Day and participate in the annual parade. Although the news about Governor Walker’s withdrawal from his election bid had yet to break, Meyer was relatively silent on the equally-surprising resignation of Lt. French: Trading up to the 3rd floor of the capitol

Sen. Hollis French is making another bid for the executive branch, this time as Lt. Governor. The 12-year veteran of the Alaska state senate ran unsuccessfully for governor in 2010. French was in Sitka Monday (7-7-14) as part of a 10-day campaign swing through Southeast Alaska. He's been instrumental in organizing a citizen initiative to repeal the governor's oil tax bill -- SB 21 -- and says he'll make a good team with Byron Mallot. Read More
