Paddling to the party
Three canoes left Kake this morning; a week from now, they'll land in Juneau ten canoes strong. The week-long trek to Celebration 2014 is organized by the One People Canoe Society. Paddlers from Kake, Ketchikan and Wrangell will be joined by canoes from Sitka, Angoon, Hoonah, Yakutat and Haines. So what prompts people to pick up a paddle? It's about "getting back to their roots," says Alicia Chilton, who is skippering the Wrangell canoe. "Or maybe finding them."
