Cellists Melissa Kraut and Zuill Bailey join KCAW's Rich McClear to talk about the agenda for the 2019 Sitka International Cello Seminar. Every year, a group of young cellists come to Sitka, where they have the opportunity to immerse themselves in all things cello.
Dr. Melissa Kraut is the education director of the Sitka International Cello Seminar, and Sarah Miller is a student. Now in it's fifth year, the seminar attracts students from around the country interested in three weeks of intense study in a supportive environment. Students will perform 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 18, at Ludwig's Wine Bar. The final concert of the seminar, "Cellobration," will be 7 p.m. Saturday, July 21, at Harrigan Centennial Hall.
The Sitka International Cello Seminar is coming to a close. Cello student Isa AlNajem and Master Teacher Dr. Melissa Kraut talk about the upcoming Cellobration, which will book-end 3 weeks of hard work.
Zuill Bailey, artistic director for the Sitka Summer Music Festival, and Melissa Kraut, master teacher at this summer's Cello Seminar, joined us in the studio to discuss upcoming events.
