On Saturday, March 25, from 8:30-11:30 a.m. the Sitka Sound Science Center will host its annual Food Web Cruise. During this morning of learning and discovery, naturalists will share their knowledge of our rich and interconnected ecosystem while guests enjoy a light breakfast. After a two-years' absence, the Center's "Food Web Cruise" will depart from Sitka's Crescent Harbor at 8:30 a.m. April 2. A fundraiser for November's "Whalefest" symposium, the Food Web Cruise is an unparalleled opportunity to view the richness of life in Sitka Sound as the herring return to spawn.
Justine Webb is the field station coordinator for the Sitka Sound Science Center and Jan Straley is a humpback whale biologist with the University of Alaska Southeast.
