Throughout this year’s hunting season, Sitka’s airport has been contending with an unusual issue: dead deer. Carcasses have been washing up on the runway since November, attracting birds. And this has posed a big problem to business as usual.
Alaska Wildlife Troopers responded to several wildlife violations in Sitka this month. They included an attempt to sell a big game trophy, smashing spawning salmon in Indian River, and killing a doe prior to the September 15th opening.
Sitkan Peter Williams is an artist who makes a variety of garments and craft objects from the hides and fur of seals and sea otters — marine mammals that he hunts himself. But Williams did not grow up hunting. He discovered it as an adult, and discovered himself as he learned how to hunt.
