The individual who tested positive took a test on Monday (9-21-20), according to a Yakutat Public Safety press release. It’s the second case that the community of around 600 people has reported in the last week. The two cases had no known contact with one another, and public health officials believe the new case is tied to community spread.
At airports across Alaska, communities are screening and testing out-of-state travelers for the coronavirus. They’re following new state regulations that went into effect earlier this month. For some smaller communities that aren’t on the road system like Yakutat, pivoting quickly to set up testing stations at airports wasn’t easy.
