First Alaska Reads screening shows ‘a lot of room to grow’ for Sitka kindergarteners
Eighty percent of Sitka's kindergarteners tested "below proficient" in the benchmark screening of the new Alaska Reads program. Since Alaska doesn't require kids to attend school until age 7, some critics of the program have argued that "it's testing for things that are just ridiculous."
