The Sitka Music Festival kicked off its 2023 season with an informal concert last Wednesday. Artistic Director Zuill Bailey, joined by members of Miami’s New World Symphony, played pieces ranging from Mozart to Frederick Tillis for an audience at a local pizza joint.
Juneau actor Patricia Hull and pianist Jon Hays will perform the one-woman musical Mother Jones in Heaven at 7:30 p.m. this Saturday, May 3, in the Mean Queen. Hull says a pub is the ideal venue for the show, which celebrates Mother Jones's life advocating for workers' rights -- and her love of the pint!
Drag shows are an important part of queer culture all over the world. On August 4, 2018, Sitka had its very first show. Although it was a bit of a risk, the producers and performers believe the show was a huge hit, and a welcome success for Sitka’s queer community.
