Kari Sagel, Jessica Christianson, and Norm Campbell discuss next Tuesday's (1-15-19) re-dedication of the Baranof Elementary School saltwater aquarium (5:45 p.m. - 6:45 p.m., with a 15-minute ceremony). There will be an unveiling of a piece by 23-year reading volunteer and textile artist Nancy Ricketts, and a free hot-dog feed.
Taking pen and ink to paper, artist Norm Campbell brings Alaska's natural world to life. Campbell recently completed a two week class at Keet Gooshi Heen Elementary School on the art of "invented landscapes." His class is a part of the Sitka Fine Arts Camp's "Artists in the Schools" residencies.

Forty years ago, poet Ann Staley bought her first piece of artwork in Ashland, Oregon. It was a watercolor painting of a tree by Norm Campbell. Staley and Campbell have maintained a long friendship ever since. Over the next several weeks, the pair will collaborate on art and poetry in a new residency program developed by Sitka’s Island Institute. She stopped by recently to talk about how a poet and a painter collaborate. She spoke with KCAW’s Robert Woolsey.
