Over one-hundred jury questionnaires had been distributed for the trial of a former Sitka doctor accused of sexually assaulting women under his care. But no jury was needed: Moments before the trial opened, Richard McGrath took a two-year plea deal.
Sitka Superior Court Judge Jude Pate made the ruling Wednesday morning (7-6-22), on the second day of jury selection, after it became clear that there would be too few jurors left, once both parties had exercised their right to "peremtory challenge," and dismissed up to 11 jurors each.
