Dr. Brian Wood is an assistant professor at the University of Washington School of Medicine and the medical director for a telehealth project called ECHO (Extension for Community Health Outcomes).

Dr. Wood was joined by Dr. Irbert Vega, who has participated in ECHO’s session for HIV medicine for the past six months. Dr. Vega is a family medicine doctor at Southeast Alaska Regional Health Consortium and talks about how joining ECHO has helped him treat HIV patients in Sitka.

Based at the University of Washington School of Medicine, Project: ECHO hosts virtual clinics, whereby healthcare providers across the Northwest participate in video conferences (1 hour/week) to problem solve cases and disseminate the latest medical information on treating chronic diseases. Through this model, Project: ECHO attempts to connect healthcare providers in rural areas to one another and to offer providers continuing education.
