Braveheart Volunteers (BHV) Zachary Desmond, Director of Programs, and Board President Sherrie Mayo, discuss the “Brave Alaskan Adventure.” That is the name of Braveheart’s three year fundraising initiative. All proceeds go towards the non-profit’s expanding palliative care, grief services, and support for caregivers.

This year, BHV has a $75,000 fundraising goal. On July 1st for the next three years, BHV will draw a name from the pledge pool. The winner gets round-trip tickets to Sitka with a three-night stay at a seaside cottage, seats on a private fishing charter excursion, and several other activities.

In the past year, Braveheart Volunteers has been expanding its grief and bereavement services, including a conference and seasonal retreats for spouses who have lost a loved one.

Regarding BHV program costs for participants: While no individual or family is ever billed for services provided, most of BHV’s programs are offered through a pay-it-forward model and are accompanied by a suggested donation or, in the case of BHV’s professional training opportunities, a registration fee.
