Artchange, Inc. and the Sitka Film Society are hosting a screening of a new short documentary by Atman Mehta. “A Beautiful Place” features residents of the Alaska village of Golovin and climate change in rural Alaska. Listen to the full interview here:

The film will be shown Friday, March 22 at 6:30 p.m. at Sitka’s Coliseum Theater. The project is sponsored by Artchange, Inc. and the Sitka Film Society. You can learn more about the film and watch a trailer here.

Emmett Williams talks about an ongoing film project with Mt. Edgecumbe High School. For the past year, Williams and former Island Institute fellow Annika Ord have been teaching a class called “Our Alaskan Stories.” They taught students documentary techniques and sent them home with video cameras over the summer. The five students are now creating short documentaries about culture, place, and climate change. They will screen their documentaries on Thursday, November 10 at the Sitka Coliseum Theater. The screening begins at 6 p.m. and is followed by a Q&A with the filmmakers.
