Sitka Community Theater is back with their upcoming annual play production, and this year they will be bringing William Shakespeare’s beloved romantic comedy “Much Ado About Nothing” to the big stage. Sitka Community Theater’s Shannon Haugland, Kelly McElligott, and Demaris Oxman join KCAW for the Morning Interview to discuss the timeless appeal of Shakespeare, their experience learning how to perform his language, and what listeners can expect from the show.

Shannon Haughland and Freddie Charbonneau are with Sitka Community Theater. This Sunday, December 29, beginning at noon, they’ll host rebroadcast last November’s production of The Radio Adventure Hour. Although the show was performed before a live audience in the Sitka Performing Arts Center, it was written to be listened to over the airwaves.

Most of us think of the big, green, misunderstood monster from Mary Shelley’s seminal work when we hear the word “Frankenstein.” In Sitka Community Theater’s upcoming production of Danielle Mohlman’s Frankenstein, the focus is on Mary Shelley herself. Performances will be Friday, March 29 at 7 p.m. and Saturday, March 30 at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. at Sitka Performing Arts Center. Tickets are available at Old Harbor Books, fineartscamp.org, and at the door. The performance is recommended for audiences ages 12 and up.

Radio Adventure Hour returns to Sitka with four short plays exploring the theme “Legendary.” Bailey Craig, Catherine Rogers, and Shannon Haugland joined KCAW’s Brooke Schafer to discuss the event. Listen to the full interview here:

Sitkans have three chances to catch Amélie The Musical: 7 p.m. on Friday March 24 and Saturday March 25, and 2 p.m. on Sunday at the Performing Arts Center. The show contains adult material and references. Sitka Community Theater is staging The Book of Will by Lauren Gunderson in March. Auditions are 2 P.M. Sunday, January 12, and 6 P.M. Producer Shannon Haugland discusses SCT’s needs for both actors and all the people needed behind the scenes to bring a show to life.

Shannon Haugland is the producer of this week’s Radio Adventure Hour – In Space (7 p.m. Friday, November 15, in the Sitka Performing Arts Center). Jeanne Stolberg is the lead sound-effects performer for the slate of all-original shows. The production is a presentation of the Sitka Community Theater and the Greater Sitka Arts Council.

“Broadway Night” is the annual fundraiser for the Greater Sitka Arts Council’s spring Community Theater project (9 to 5: The Musical). Producer Shannon Haugland discusses how the idea for Broadway Night emerged nine years ago, and what has made it such a successful event. 6:30 p.m. Saturday, January 26, Odess Theater.
