Sitka High Boys extended their dominance in Cross Country by winning the Regional 1A/2A/3A Meet Saturday morning (9-28-13) in Sitka. Freshman David Wilcox broke the tape in 17:37 for the 5K event, helping his team to an overall first in the meet. Mt. Edgecumbe, Wrangell, and Skagway rounded out the field.

David Wilcox is planning to run across the country with his dad next year, to protest genetically-modified foods. Read more about that story here.

In the girls’ race, Thorne Bay junior Taylee Nyquest proved that she will once again be the runner to beat at state. The defending small schools champ outran the rest of the field by a full two minutes. Sid Riggs was Sitka’s top girl with a time of 21:10, which put her in fourth place. As expected, the Petersburg girls captured the regional crown, with Mt. Edgecumbe, Craig, and Sitka rounding out the field
