At its regular monthly meeting in May (5-20-19) the board voted to downgrade its powers over the park to “advisory.” The move may signal the need to consolidate all of Sitka’s waterfront infrastructure -- including harbors -- into a port authority.
While much of the rest of the state has been in a recession over the last five years, Sitka has experienced modest growth in many areas of the economy, with the notable exception of population -- which has remained stable for 25 years.
