Salvaged-wood violin will be “audio portrait of the region”
Sitka’s chamber music festival will be getting a special gift this summer: a custom violin made out of wood salvaged from around Sitka. KCAW’s Meredith Redick spoke to the Sitka couple who commissioned the violin, and to the artist who is crafting what he calls an “audio portrait of the region.”

Stevenson Hall, as it appears in the Historic American Building Survey.[/caption]Kayla Boettcher, executive director of the Sitka Summer Music Festival, reports on her organization's receipt of a $260,000 grant from the Murdock Charitable Trust, which will allow for the purchase of the festival's headquarters at Stevenson Hall. The Murdock Trust, plus a number of individual funders, contributed a total of $530,000 in capital funding, some of which will be used toward repairs of the historic building.
