We are committed to historic preservation. We are turning a hundred-year old historic building into a year-round home for musicians and the centuries-old priceless instruments. We are retaining historic features of the building's exterior, and recapturing historic elements that have been absent for decades.
Artistic director Zuill Bailey announced at the Sitka Chamber of Commerce this week (6-13-19) that a $4 million restoration of the festival’s home -- Stevenson Hall, on the Sheldon Jackson Campus -- will get underway this July.
Stevenson Hall, as it appears in the Historic American Building Survey.[/caption]Kayla Boettcher, executive director of the Sitka Summer Music Festival, reports on her organization's receipt of a $260,000 grant from the Murdock Charitable Trust, which will allow for the purchase of the festival's headquarters at Stevenson Hall. The Murdock Trust, plus a number of individual funders, contributed a total of $530,000 in capital funding, some of which will be used toward repairs of the historic building.
