City seeks volunteers to join new ‘Sustainability Commission’

Sitka’s “Climate Action Task Force” has disbanded. The temporary task force was established in the winter of 2021, with the goal of tackling Sitka’s carbon footprint. Stanford Students Study Sustainability in Sitka

Twelve students from Stanford's Sophomore College Course, in cooperation with the Sitka Sound Science Center, spent three weeks in Sitka, exploring the human component of environmental sustainability. Program Instructor Aaron Strong says the students focused on four aspects of sustainability: forests, fisheries, tourism, and energy.  Students Elizabeth Hillstrom and Christopher Yeh say the experience was life-changing.  All twelves students will present their findings today (Thursday, Sept. 17) at 5 pm at Kettleson Memorial Library.
