Seward High School swimmer Lydia Jacoby won the gold medal in the 100m breaststroke at the Tokyo Olympics last summer. She dominated that event at the Alaska State Swim meet last week, and won the 200m individual medley. No Sitka swimmers competed against Jacoby at state, but they all made sure to watch her events. Daily Sitka Sentinel Sports editor Garland Kenned joins KCAW’s Robert Woolsey in an update on the state Volleyball Tournament and Swim Meet. The highlight for Sitka’s four swimmers was watching Olympic gold medalist (from Seward High School) Lydia Jacoby win state titles in two events.

The end of the Volleyball and Swimming seasons overlaps with the beginning of Wrestling.

Kennedy says that this year’s Region V Volleyball tourney between Sitka High and Mt. Edgecumbe was exceptionally well-played, perhaps “the best sports I’ve seen.” With KCAW’s Robert Woolsey.

Sitka High School’s swim team had a strong showing at state with the girls’ team placing fourth and the boys’ team ranking at seventh. The team is coached by Ben Adams.
