The same storm that damaged Sitka’s Eliason Harbor before on November 12 this year devastated a section of the popular Beaver Lake trail. Informal estimates put the amount of blowdown between 40 – 50 trees in a 300-foot section of trail on the east side of the lake.
These pictures were taken by Bill Foster, a loyal user of the trail. Foster and other witnesses say a mudslide contributed to the extensive damage. The Forest Service will wait until next spring to reopen the trail.
