A helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station Sitka rescued three hunters around 11:30 a.m. Wednesday.

Dan, Dave and Terry Newman left for a weekend hunting trip on Saturday but did not show up to work Wednesday morning. The three brothers in their 50s had become stranded at a cabin near Sevenfathom Bay when their skiff broke free of its mooring and drifted away.

They were transported to Sitka in good condition.

Their skiff is still missing. It’s a 17-foot white Boston Whaler with a center console. Anyone with information is asked to call the Coast Guard at 907-463-2991.

Coast Guard spokesman Petty Officer Grant DeVuyst reminded mariners to always let someone else know where they’re going and how long they’ll be out.
