I’m Michael Baines, I’m the current Tribal Chairman at the Sitka Tribe. I know it’s been a long election campaign season but I hope all tribal citizens will get out and vote at our Tribal Council election on Nov. 11 at the Community House.
I would like to continue with the Tribal Council working to improve our economic development opportunities by working with other entities like the Forest Service, the city, the Sealaska Corporation and their Haa Aani. And I have a lot of contacts with those organizations and hope to be able to use them to improve our economic development at the tribe.
I would like to increase the volume of services that we provide. Although we’ve typically focused on quality, instead of quantity, I think it’s important that we increase the number of services that we provide to tribal citizens, through general assistance, the higher education program, vocational education, and the traditional foods programs.
And I hope you’ll all come out and vote for me on Nov. 11.
