My name is Benjamen Miyasato and I am running for a seat on the City and Borough of Sitka Assembly. I have served previously on the Sitka Assembly from October 2013 until October 2016.

During this time frame, I also served on the Sitka Tribe of Alaska’s Council as its Treasurer. I served on Council from December 2011 until January 2017. I do have experience in tribal government and city government.  Some of the positions I have held include Vice Chairman and Treasurer.

With the Assembly I served as Vice Deputy Mayor from January 2015 until October 2016.

I was born and raised here in Sitka and attended kindergarten through high school here. I have worked 20 years in the banking industry and have also served in the Alaska Army National Guard. I have deployed twice while in the Guard and have earned the Combat Infantry Badge while on my first deployment in Baghdad, Iraq.

We are undergoing trying fiscal times at both the state and city level. I want to bring my years of experience at tribal and city government to the table and help navigate us through these difficult times. Thank you and remember to vote this October. I would love to have your vote.

The municipal election is Tuesday, October 3rd. Both precincts will vote at Harrigan Centennial Hall.  Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.  Absentee and advanced voting is available weekdays from 9am to 5pm at City Hall (3rd floor) through October 2nd. Absentee voting by mail is available through September 26.
