A portion of the Yakutat District will soon be closed to subsistence moose hunting.

Yakutat District Ranger Lee Benson has decided to close the portion of Unit 5A west of the Dangerous River, except Nunatak Bench, beginning at 11:59 p.m. Friday, October 12th.

In a statement published on Friday, Benson’s office said that the closure was to ensure that the 2018 quota is not exceeded. Currently, the quota is 30 bulls west of Dangerous River and 30 bulls east of Dangerous River. A bull is a male moose.

The remainder of Unit 5A east of Dangerous River will remain open through November 15th, or until 30 bulls are harvested from that area. For more information, contact Ranger Benson at (907) 784-3359.
