Peter Williams and Matthew Jackson joined KCAW’s Meredith Redick in the studio to discuss Reconciliation Day, a revisiting and reexamining of the October 18 Alaska Day holiday celebrated in Sitka and throughout the state. Listen to the full interview here:

One of the goals of Reconciliation Day? To reconsider why and how Alaska Day is celebrated. “To take celebration and continuing celebration but put it in a way that’s also healing and inclusive to groups,” said Williams, “that have suffered and continue to suffer under colonial occupation.”

Raven News will provide more coverage of the October 18 Reconciliation Day events later this week.
