After nearly two COVID-19 free months, Yakutat health officials have announced one new coronavirus case (KCAW/Meiers)

Yakutat has a new confirmed case of the coronavirus.

Yakutat Incident Command announced the new case on Sunday (9-20-20). The man had no symptoms when he took a test at the Yakutat Community Health Center on Sept. 17. Public health officials have started contact tracing and will contact anyone who had close contact with the man. It’s unclear how he contracted the virus, but community spread is possible, according to a local press release.

This brings Yakutat’s total case count to seven, according to local officials. It’s the first reported case in Yakutat in almost two months. Yakutat Incident Command is asking everyone who has been in a public establishment or business for over 15 minutes without a mask since Sept. 7 to get tested.

The local clinic conducted free drive-thru testing today/on Monday and will continue to offer free testing days in the future.
