Sitka District Ranger Perry Edwards discusses life in the district during the pandemic, as seasonal crews had to be trained and housed under unusual circumstances. Some of the work accomplished: Cabin maintenance district-wide, hardening the Shelikov Beach trail, replacing the stove at the Fred’s Creek shelter, and planning the realignment of the Gavan Hill trail. On the horizon for district staff: $5 million/year forest-wide for recreation and aquatic habitat improvements — including planning for improvements to Sandy Beach in Sitka.
