Democrat, Jonathan Kreiss-Tomkins, 31, is seeking re-election in House District 35.

I’m Representative Jonathan Kreiss-Tomkins. I have had the incredible honor of representing the people of House District 35 in the Alaska State House of Representatives for the past 8 years. I love Southeast Alaska, and I love its way of life. I’m asking for your support to continue to serve on your behalf for 2 more as I love that my job is to help make our region more vibrant, sustainable, and resilient.

I’ve worked hard to ensure that the interests of my constituency are represented and have done so in a manner that reflects my commitment towards bipartisanship and civility. I am devoted towards maintaining these standards, especially during a time in which polarization threatens the fundamental decency of our governmental systems.

I serve as an Alaskan, not as a Democrat or a Republican. I believe in the politics of humility: good ideas are good ideas no matter where they come from, and good people are good people no matter what party they belong to. Finally, I believe in the power of good ideas. With competent execution, good ideas are the building blocks of progress. I see the legislature as a forum to advance and realize good ideas.

The people of Southeast Alaska understand the power that comes from collaboration and working together. I was raised to believe in the strength of connectivity and bring that perspective to my work in Juneau. It is more important than ever, in a time of unprecedented isolation and economic disaster, that we reach across boundaries, be it political aisle or other, to raise our great state up.

At the moment, Alaska is facing a huge budget crisis. I have been, and will continue to approach this crisis with critical thinking, empirical data, and an open mind. I believe in solving problems as Alaskans, not as Democrats or Republicans. There is a lot of work to do to ensure that the people of Southeast Alaska are presented with secure and sustainable fiscal options and I am eager to enact these solutions.

I’d be grateful for your support on Election Day to return to Juneau and bring a collaborative, problem solving approach for two more years. I believe in balanced budgets and the harder, more concrete decisions that come with them. I am thankful for your consideration and support.
