Sitka experienced an outage that affected some wireless services today (10-21-26).
City staff say the outage limited cell phone calls to emergency services. In a public service announcement published shortly before 9 a.m., Public & Government Relations Director Melissa Lunas said Sitkans could reach 911 by calling from a landline, but the police and fire departments were not able to receive calls from cell phones. Lunas said wireless carriers were aware of the issue and working towards a solution.
During the outage, residents can reach the Sitka Fire Department by calling 907.738.3473 or 907.738.3151 for the Sitka Police Department. For non-emergencies, email police at dispatch@sitkapd.gov.
