Assembly to vote on Centennial Hall plan

The design includes green space, one-way bus lanes, and even some additional parking – all changes that city officials say will keep pedestrians safer. The plan also factors in expansions to both Kettleson Memorial Library and Centennial Hall.

Spending cruise tax money prolongs Assembly meeting

Last night’s regular meeting of the Sitka Assembly is not over. The Assembly went into recess at 11 p.m., as required by city code, after finding itself without enough time to work through the agenda. The meeting will resume at 6 p.m. on Thursday.

Controversial totem pole returns to Sitka square

The pole was removed last year while state workers rebuilt a seawall and changed landscaping to the greenspace across from the Sitka Pioneer Home. It underwent restoration and was put back in place during a small ceremony Monday afternoon.

Tribe hears election protest, ratifies results

Tribal citizen Betty Jo Moore told the Tribal Council she had a variety of concerns about the election, including the list of eligible voters, which she believes to be inaccurate. But she was concerned specifically about three people who had to vote questioned ballots during the Tribe’s Nov. 8 election.
