The Sitka Hospital Board will meet in special session 12 PM Monday, January 5, 2015 to "decide the proposed resignation of the CEO." Jeff Comer took over as CEO of Sitka Community Hospital in October after an extensive search, but reportedly inherited an organization in serious financial jeopardy. The meeting will take place in the hospital classroom on the lower level. The public is welcome to attend.

The assembly will hold a special meeting Friday evening (1-2-15) at 5:30 PM in Harrigan Centennial Hall to select someone to serve the remaining 10 months of Phyllis Hackett’s term. The Coast Guard rescued a man and woman after their 17-foot skiff ran aground in Kanga Bay near Sitka on Saturday (12-27-14). The Sitka Fire Department relayed information from a 9-1-1 call to the Coast Guard, that a man and woman had been thrown out of a skiff when it struck the shore Saturday evening. The man reportedly had suffered injuries to his head and face in the spill.

Sitka has torn up what is likely the first of many paved city streets and returned it to gravel. The community has wrestled for years with how to pay to replace pavement put down during the heyday of the state’s oil wealth in the 1980s. And so far, no one’s come up with a plan for local funding that’s acceptable to residents.
