The Sitka Assembly meets tonight (3-11-14) to consider proposals setting guidelines for the potential sale of bulk or bottled water at the Sawmill Cove Industrial Park. Sitka's District Court has sentenced two men linked to a September shooting at Sitka's Pioneer Bar. Sitkans share what it's like to fall into the "Medicaid donut hole." Yakutat is attempting a wave-energy experiment to lower the cost of power.

55-year old Richard Davis will serve two months in jail for assault and misconduct involving a weapon. 22-year old Tyler Westlund already served five days in jail, and still owes a $1,000 fine for criminal mischief resulting in property damage.

Sitka Wolves capture regional basketball crown

The Sitka Wolves have won the Southeast region 3A basketball tournament. The Wolves decisively beat the Mt. Edgecumbe Braves Saturday afternoon, 62 to 45. The game was a rematch between these same two teams from the previous afternoon. In Friday’s contest, Mt. Edgecumbe trailed Sitka by 14 points going into the fourth quarter, but rallied, tied the game with less than a minute to play, and eventually won by 5. On Saturday, however, Sitka was a different team.

Region V Basketball: Mt. Edgecumbe forces Sitka into Saturday playoff

The Mt. Edgecumbe Braves have come out of the loser's bracket to challenge Sitka for the Region V Basketball championship. The Braves defeated the Wolves 66 - 61 in what could have been their last game of the season. Instead, they've forced an "if" game, scheduled for 3:45 PM Saturday (3-8-14). The Braves were saved with less than a minute to play by a player making his first appearance in a varsity game.
