Welcome to a new storytelling program produced in collaboration with the Sitka Tribe of Alaska, Artchange, Inc. & KCAW, Raven Radio. Daanax.ils’eik (Chuck Miller) will host “Our Grandparents’ Teachings”. This program will help keep Tlingit stories alive through storytelling and education. Join us as we celebrate the rich cultural heritage of Southeast Alaska.

The radio version airs live on 91.1 & 104.7 FM on the first Tuesday of the month at 7 PM AKST (8 PM Pacific Time) on KCAW from Sitka, Alaska, on Lingít Aaní land. Artchange Inc. and KCAW present the latest installment of Sitka Tells Tales, true stories told live on Raven Radio. On Tuesday, April 20th, from 8-9pm, five storytellers told us their tales of bad jobs, horrible roommates, and broken hearts.

Storytellers were: Robin Neely, Andrew Scorzelli, Blossom Teal-Olsen, Nicole Fiorino, and Aaron Minks. Hosted by Ellen Frankenstein.

Talk of Southeast Alaska is a call-in radio program about regional issues faced by folks in all our listening communities. In this episode, we learned navigating consent as a Parent/Caregiver. The conversation was moderated by Deanna Moore from Sitkans Against Family Violence, and the panelists were Lauren Havens, former School Program Coordinator, SAFV, and Darby Osborne, Sitka High School, Peer Educator for Healthy Relationships.

Hosted by Becky Meiers, and produced by Peter Vu, Talk of Southeast Alaska is one of the results of 2019’s Translatorpalooza tour. We developed this show as a result of our meetings with listeners throughout our broadcast area. Over and over, folks in each community expressed the need to hear from each other — they wanted to hear how people throughout our region were dealing with the issues they were dealing with. They wanted to hear stories from other folks in small communities along the coast.

Our third episode aired on Wednesday, April 22nd – our discussion centered on intimate partner and family safety in the time of a pandemic. We partnered with Sitkans Against Family Violence (SAFV) on this installment of their Crucial Conversations series. Direct Services Director Tina Bachmeier and Amanda Capitummino, Communications and Evaluation Specialist, joined us on the program to talk about where to find help, how to identify, and background causes for domestic violence when you’re in isolation as a result of COVID-19.
