Kenny Karl-Skaflestad has entered the race for the District 35 House Seat this upcoming election.

Karl-Skaflestad is a commercial fisherman, the former mayor of Hoonah, and former city council member. He plans to run as a Republican in the primary election in August for Representative of District 35.

Sitka Democrat Jonathan Kreiss-Tomkins has held that seat since 2013 and is up for re-election in the fall. Karl-Skaflestad is the first challenger to enter the race.

A press release published by “Kenny Karl for House” lists his priorities. Those include supporting the Alaska Marine Highway System, the Juneau Access Road project, and smaller government with “less taxes and less regulation.”

District 35 includes Sitka, Petersburg, Hoonah, and 18 other rural communities.
