The New Archangel Dancers are holding auditions to recruit new dancers this fall. Linda Speerstra, Gina Newkirk, and Angela McGraw talk about the fall program and what brought them to the group. Founded in 1969, the New Archangel Dancers is an all-volunteer, all-women group that trains in Russian folk dancing and performs in town.

“The thing I always hear is, ‘I don’t know how to dance.’ Come and we will teach you. It’s super fun and actually easier than you think,” Newkirk said.

The open house is Saturday, October 20th from 7 to 9 p.m. at the New Archangel Studio at 208 Smith Street. Auditions will be held on Monday, October 22nd and Monday, October 29th from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. at the studio. To mark the end of the summer season, the New Archangel Dancers host their annual Alaska Day performance – “the Big Show” – on Friday, October 12th at 7 p.m. at Harrigan Centennial Hall.  Admission is $5 for adults, $3 for children under 10. Proceeds benefit Alaska Day Festival.

Tickets can be bought in advance at the Festival desk in Centennial Hall or at the door. Contact Linda Speerstra at 747-8316 for more information.
