All crew survive Air Station Sitka helicopter crash

Four crew members survived (two with serious injuries) the crash of an Air Station Sitka helicopter Monday night (11-13-23) on Read Island, about 22 miles northwest of Petersburg. The crew was en route to aid a flooding crabber, which subsequently recovered and remained afloat. As yet there is no official explanation for the crash.

Tribal housing needs survey open until November 21

The Baranof Island Housing Authority and Sitka Tribe of Alaska are partnering to assess tribal housing needs in Sitka with a community survey. SOS Lifeline to provide goods for unhoused Sitkans next week

A collaborative community group in Sitka is taking part in a national initiative to collect goods for unhoused people in January, but they’re kicking things off a bit early. Sitka Outreach and Support: Lifeline president Julia Smith says Sitka holds its program sooner, with hopes of helping people stay warm in the earlier winter months.
