Translator signal now stable!

Over the last couple of days, our translator communities have had intermittent signal outages. With help from our engineers, we've located the problem and it should be up through the night, but possibly intermittent! Tomorrow engineers will swap out another piece of equipment. That will take the signal off the air for 1/2 hour or so, but should fix this issue for good. Thanks so much for your patience, and a big thank you to everyone who called in and let us know when problems arose!

Hughes-Knowles brings perspective, choice to mayor’s race

Hughes-Knowles became interested in running for mayor when he saw an ad in the Daily Sitka Sentinel soliciting candidates for municipal office. in fact, the level of political apathy shocked him. Hughes-Knowles says people like state representative Jonathan Kreiss-Tomkins and assembly member Matt Hunter have helped revive his generation’s attention to local politics. But more are needed.

Candidate statement: Aaron Wamsley

Aaron Wamsley is a candidate for the Sitka Assembly: In the 10 years I have been here I have fallen in love with Sitka. But even though the community seems like it’s healthy, in reality, to me and many Sitkans that I have spoken to, Sitka is slowly hemorrhaging to death.

Assembly candidates tested in Chamber forum

Five candidates are running for a seat on the Sitka Assembly this year. Their experience runs from lifelong resident and former assembly member to relative newbie. The candidates met this week (9-22-14) in a forum held at the Sitka Chamber of Commerce. A fairly large crowd attended to hear the candidates answer questions and share their views on a range of issues.
